Manchester United monitoring Sporting winger Issahaku Fatawu
The Red Devils are reportedly keeping a close eye on many wingers across the Europe.
According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Manchester United are monitoring Sporting winger Issahaku Fatawu.
The 18-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
Sporting CP reportedly paid Steadfast 1.2 million euros for Issahaku Fatawu earlier this year. He has a valid contract until June 2026.
The winger has featured in six matches for Sporting this term in all competitions.
He has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Ghana. Fatawu has represented Ghana at Under-20 level, winning 6 caps and scoring 2 goals, before making his senior international debut in October 2021. As a member of Ghana national football team, Fatawu won 13 caps and he scored one goal.
His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.
The Red Devils have earmarked Sporting winger as their target, with Erik ten Hag being a ‘huge admirer’ of the player. Ten Hag has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe.
The former Steadfast man will add a new dimension to Manchester United’s attack.
According to the report, “Manchester United are watching Sporting CP prospect Issahaku Fatawu. The 18 year-old Ghana international is being scouted by United this season, says the Daily Mail. With a contract to 2026, Fatawu’s deal carries a €60m buyout clause. Fatawu only joined Sporting earlier this year from Ghana’s Steadfast FC, but is already playing Champions League football this season. The right-sided winger made his Ghana debut last year.”
Euro Football Rumours
Manchester United will have to present a really enticing offer to bring Sporting to the negotiating table. They have the resources to tempt them but it will be interesting to see if they are willing to overpay for the player.
Sporting CP are preparing to sell their winger should they receive a massive offer for him.
Good signing for Manchester United?
Signing the 18-year-old in the winter transfer window would be a masterstroke from Erik ten Hag.
It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.
Of course, the 18-year-old is not going to become a regular for United straightaway, but working under Erik ten Hag would make him a better player.
It will be interesting to see if Manchester United are willing to pay the asking price for Fatawu.
