Manchester United: Club interested in winger Steven Bergwijn

The Red Devils reportedly want to add more quality on the flanks.

According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Manchester United are interested in winger Steven Bergwijn.

The Netherlands international was signed by Tottenham in January 2020 from PSV for a fee of 30 million euros. The 24-year-old has a contract until 2025 with the club.

This season, Bergwijn has scored four goals and provided two assists in 27 appearances for Tottenham.

The 24-year-old is considered to be one of the best wingers in Netherlands. He has also left his mark at the international stage after netting 5 goals in 18 senior appearances for the Netherlands national team.

Steven Bergwijn is one of the more likely players to be offloaded by Tottenham this summer and the list of suitors in the Netherlands international continues to grow.

Manchester United are looking to sign a winger and have identified the 24-year-old as potential transfer target.

The Netherlands international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of winger new United manager Erik ten Hag wants to target in the summer transfer window.

The former PSV man will offer new United boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.

The Daily Mail says Erik ten Hag is considering moving for long-term target Bergwijn when he takes over at Manchester United. Bergwijn, the Tottenham Hotspur winger, was close to linking up with Ten Hag at Ajax in January. But Spurs blocked the Holland international’s exit after encouraging performances, including two decisive goals during stoppage time of the dramatic 3-2 victory at Leicester City. The 24-year-old has started just once since, with loan signing Dejan Kulusevski preferred by Antonio Conte in a front three alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. Bergwijn looks destined to leave Spurs this summer and is likely to cost around £20million after a stop-start two years in the capital. Clubs in Germany and France are also monitoring his situation.”

Euro Football Rumours

Manchester United will have to present a really enticing offer to bring Tottenham to the negotiating table. The Red Devils have the resources to tempt them but it will be interesting to see if they are willing to overpay for the player.

The Spurs are preparing to sell their winger should they receive a massive offer for him.

Good signing for Manchester United?

The 24-year-old is certainly a player that would strengthen the current Manchester United squad and would be a good buy in the summer transfer window.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Manchester.
