As per British media, Manchester United are among clubs keen on Southampton defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia.
The Belgium international only joined Southampton from Manchester City in July 2022 for 12.3 million euros and his contract runs to June 2027.
In 20 appearances for Southampton, Lavia has managed to score one goal, and create one goal for his teammates.
The 19-year-old has long been touted as one of Belgium’s most promising young talents. Lavia has represented Belgium at Under-15, Under-16, Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 16 caps and scoring three goals.
He will be high in demand this summer, with him having enjoyed a sublime season for Southampton this term.
The Red Devils are looking to sign a defensive midfielder and have identified the 19-year-old as potential transfer target. Erik ten Hag sees Romeo Lavia as the perfect addition to his midfield.
Someone with Lavia’s skillset will undoubtedly add more quality to Ten Hag‘s midfield.
Manchester United will have funds to spend in the market and it will be interesting to see how they approach the summer transfer window.
The former Manchester City man will offer the Manchester United boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.

The 19-year-old has been impressive for the Saints this season, despite the club’s Premier League struggles. Per The Mail, the Belgian teenager is attracting interest from United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and other top clubs. Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is likely the primary target for most teams this summer. However, he may even choose to stay, and most of the clubs pursuing him will miss out on his talents. Lavia is being seen as an alternative, especially if he continues to grow as a player.”

The Saints feel under no pressure to sell and will “demand a significant fee” before letting him go.
It would take a huge offer from Manchester United to prise the 19-year-old defensive midfielder from Southampton.
Good signing for Manchester United?
Manchester United could benefit by signing Lavia as the defensive midfielder is one of the areas of concern for Erik ten Hag.
Given Romeo Lavia’s talent and potential, he would be a very good signing for United in the long run.
It will be interesting to see if Manchester United can beat their rivals to the midfielder’s signature.
