Manchester City set to sign Southampton centre-half Virgil van Dijk

It’s no secret that Manchester City are interested in Southampton’s centre-half Virgil van Dijk. But who isn’t?

The reports in England suggested that Manchester City are set to sign Southampton centre-half Virgil van Dijk.

The Netherlands international joined Southampton from Celtic for a fee in the region of 15.7 million euros in September 2015. His contract expires in the summer of 2022.

The 26-year-old has scored seven goals in 80 games for Southampton since joining the club in 2015.

Virgil van Dijk has represented Netherlands at Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning four caps, before making his senior international debut in October 2015. As a member of Netherlands national football team, Virgil van Dijk won 16 caps.

The Manchester City manager has been impressed by his performances and could make a move in the coming transfer window.

The Netherlands international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Pep Guardiola wants to target in the winter transfer window.

According to the report, Manchester City are closing in on a 70 million euros deal for Southampton centre-half. The Premier League leaders are increasingly confident of landing the Netherlands defender ahead of rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Barcelona. Manchester City are in talks with Southampton over a transfer, with the South Coast club now prepared to cash in on the 26-year-old.

Signing the 26-year-old would be a masterstroke from Pep Guardiola.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Manchester City.

It will be interesting to see whether Manchester City will make their move during the January transfer window.
