Manchester City linked with surprise move for Leicester centre-back Caglar Soyuncu
The defensive department of the Manchester City squad needs quality additions this winter.
It’s claimed by British media that Manchester City are linked with surprise move for Leicester centre-back Caglar Soyuncu.
The Turkey international only joined Leicester from SC Freiburg in 2018 for 21.1 million euros and his contract runs to June 2023.
Soyuncu made 16 appearances across all competitions for Leicester, supplying one assist in return.
The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in Turkey.
As a member of Turkey national football team, Soyuncu won 25 caps and he scored one goal.
His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.
The report details that Pep Guardiola feels his defense currently lacks some bite and that he could strengthen this winter.
The Turkey international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Pep Guardiola wants to target in the winter transfer window.
Caglar Soyuncu is a traditional defender. He is solid while defending and holds his position perfectly.
According to The Guardian, “With Aymeric Laporte having been ruled out for around six months with a nasty knee injury, Manchester City might be tempted into a move for another centre-back this January. Despite having missed out on Harry Maguire in the summer, Pep Guardiola’s gaze is still fixed on a burly Leicester defender. The player who has got Pep rubbing his palms giddily is Caglar Soyuncu, whose outstanding displays for Brendan Rodgers’ side have made Maguire’s £80m departure to Manchester United seem little more than a mild inconvenience. The 23-year-old has proved himself able to work the ball out from the back without gifting the ball to opposition forwards or playing ludicrous square passes to invisible teammates, so he could well be an upgrade on Nicolás Otamendi and John Stones. ”

A big money bid from Manchester City could tempt Leicester into selling their prized asset.
The 23-year-old would be a very good addition for Man City and they can afford him as well.
How strong that interest is and whether Manchester City will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
