Manchester City join Barcelona in race for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez

Manchester City are planning a move for Lautaro Martinez.

Italian source claim that Manchester City have joined Barcelona in race for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

The 22-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.

The Argentina international only joined Inter Milan from Racing Club in 2018 for 25 million euros and his contract runs to June 2023.

The 22-year-old is considered to be one of the best strikers in Argentina.

Lautaro Martinez has represented Argentina at Under-20 level, winning 11 caps and scoring 7 goals, before making his senior international debut in March 2018. As a member of Argentina national football team, Martinez won 18 caps and he scored 9 goals.

Pep Guardiola is looking to shore up his attacking options and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez happens to be a target. He is a long term admirer of Martinez and believes he can get the most out of the Argentina international.

The Argentina international provides a unique blend between a classic center-forward and the modern striker.

According to Football Italia, “Manchester City have joined Barcelona in the race for Inter hitman Lautaro Martinez, according to Sky Sport Italia expert Gianluca Di Marzio. The 22-year-old Argentine has formed an exceptional partnership with Romelu Lukaku this season, scoring 13 goals with three assists in 19 games between Serie A and the Champions League. Barcelona have not disguised their interest in the forward, with Lionel Messi urging the club to invest in his Argentina international teammate. Now Manchester City have also joined the race, claims Sky Sport Italia transfer guru Di Marzio, looking at the release clause in his contract. There is a clause worth €111m, but it can only be activated for a certain number of weeks in the summer by clubs outside of Italy. Inter are in negotiations with his agents to work out a new contract that would either increase or remove the release clause.”

If Manchester City are genuinely interested, a deal would not be impossible to complete.

This transfer could turn out to be a bargain as the market for strikers is inflated at the moment.

Stylistically, Martinez would be a great fit in Manchester City.

Whether he will join Manchester City or not remains to be seen.
