Liverpool set to sign Manchester City left-back Gael Clichy

According to the football transfer rumours in British Media (Metro), Liverpool are set to sign Manchester City left-back Gael Clichy.

The France international was signed by Manchester City in July 2011 from Arsenal for a fee of 7.7 million euros. The 31-year-old has a valid contract with Manchester City until June 2017.

Since his arrival from Arsenal, Gael Clichy has scored three goals and provided 14 assists in 203 games for Manchester City, including two goals in 39 games in all competitions this season.

The 31-year-old is considered to be one of the best left-backs in France.

Gael Clichy has represented France at Under-21 level, winning 10 caps, before making his senior international debut in September 2008. As a member of France national football team, Gael Clichy has won 18 caps.

There has been no movement on Gael Clichy agreeing a contract extension at Manchester City, and he will be on the radar of many English clubs during the summer.

The France international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Jürgen Klopp wants to target in the summer transfer window.

Gael Clichy is a player who has impressed many European clubs in the last few seasons, and it is understood that Liverpool manager would prefer playing him as a left-back.

Euro Football Rumours understood that Liverpool are offering a two-year contract to the France international, who will be available on a free transfer this summer.

How strong that interest is and whether Liverpool will make a summer move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
