According to the report, “Liverpool are watching Benfica defender Antonio Silva. The 18-year-old centre-back has impressed for the Portuguese giants since making his first-team breakthrough this season and is now attracting attention from top European clubs. O Jogo says the Reds are one side who have been ‘constantly following’ the performances of Benfica, amid interest in other members of the squad, but add the club are not currently willing to negotiate for the teenager who is protected by a €100m release clause. Antonio Silva is a top-class talent and Benfica want to keep him at the club.

Liverpool will have to present a really enticing offer to bring Benfica to the negotiating table. They have the resources to tempt them but it will be interesting to see if they are willing to overpay for the player.

Good signing for Liverpool?

If Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp are seriously considering a centre-back, Antonio Silva could also prove to be a smart option.

It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.

Antonio Silva has all the skillset required to be a success story at Liverpool. Therefore, it makes sense for Klopp to step up his attempts to bring the Portugal centre-back to Premier League side.

How strong that interest is and whether Liverpool will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
