Liverpool linked with a move for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong
It is an open secret that Liverpool need to sign a midfielder.
The latest reports in England suggest that Liverpool are linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The Netherlands international joined Barcelona from Ajax for a fee in the region of 86 million euros in July 2019. His contract expires in the summer of 2026.
He has featured in 13 matches this term, netting one goal in all competitions.
The 25-year-old is considered to be one of the best midfielders in Netherlands. De Jong has also left his mark at the international stage after netting one goal in 44 senior appearances for the Netherlands national team.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Liverpool.
The Reds are looking to sign a midfielder and have identified the 25-year-old as potential transfer target.
Jürgen Klopp is a firm fan of Barcelona midfielder and Liverpool could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense. Klopp is a long term admirer of De Jong and believes he can get the most out of the Netherlands international.
Liverpool are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The former Ajax man will offer the Liverpool boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.

ESPN says Liverpool have ‘initiated’ contact with De Jong as they weigh up a move for the Dutchman. De Jong had been the subject of persistent interest from Manchester United during the summer transfer window as new boss Erik Ten Hag looked to strike a reunion with the midfielder he enjoyed a thriving relationship with at Ajax. But the Reds have formed contact with the midfielder ahead of potentially trying to seal a move in the coming windows. The summer of 2023 is primed to be a big one at Anfield with the likes of Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara not getting any younger. While the futures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are still to be decided.”
