Liverpool keen on Brighton centre-back Ben White
It is an open secret that Liverpool need to sign a centre-back.
As per British media, Liverpool are keen on Brighton centre-back Ben White.
The England international joined Brighton from Southampton in 2014. The 23-year-old’s contract at Brighton is set to expire at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
The centre-back has featured in six matches for Brighton in all competitions this term.
He’s incredibly experienced for a 23-year-old and still has tons of room for growth. His performances have seen him become the target of many Premier League clubs including Liverpool.
Adding a centre-back remains Liverpool’s top priority this winter and Jürgen Klopp will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming weeks.
Klopp has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe. He is a long term admirer of White and believes he can get the most out of the England international.
The Reds are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The Brighton centre-back heavily relies on his ability to read the game. It is coupled with his sensible tackling and an excellent sense of positioning, allowing him to repel most of the danger in the defensive third. He would provide a good variety to Liverpool’s defense.
According to the report, “Liverpool will consider a January move for Brighton defender Ben White following Virgil van Dijk’s knee injury. Football Insider says the Reds extensively scouted White over the summer, and he still remains very much on their radar. However, they are worried that he does not perform well in aerial duels, and he is a very different type of defender to the colossal Van Dijk. The 23-year-old impressed in the Championship on loan at Leeds last season, but despite the Whites making a number of bids during the transfer window he ended up staying with the Seagulls. He has been an ever-present for Graham Potter’s side at the start of the current campaign, but has been part of a leaky defence that has shipped 14 goals in six games in all competitions so far. Liverpool may well be monitoring his performances over the coming months as they consider a bid, but they would likely have to spend in excess of £30m to land their man, given Leeds’ bid of a similar figure was turned down.”

Liverpool will have to present a really enticing offer to bring Brighton to the negotiating table. Liverpool have the resources to tempt them but it will be interesting to see if they are willing to overpay for the player.
Good signing for Liverpool?
Signing the centre-back could be a good decision as he could improve Jürgen Klopp’s defensive options.
Ben White is still quite young and he will only get better with experience. He would be a good long term investment for Liverpool.
How strong that interest is and whether Liverpool will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
