Liverpool enter talks with Schalke for Ozan Kabak
Liverpool could solve their issues at centre-back this winter as they eye up a move for Ozan Kabak.
The reports in England and Germany suggested that Liverpool have entered talks with Schalke for Ozan Kabak.
Schalke spent 25 million euros to sign the Turkey international from VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2019. The 20-year-old has four years left on his current contract which expires in 2024.
The centre-back has featured in two matches for Schalke this term in all competitions.
The 20-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in Turkey.
The Schalke centre-back has also represented the Turkey at various youth levels before going on to secure four senior caps for his country thus far.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Liverpool.
Jürgen Klopp wants to sign a new centre-back and Kabak is one of the names at the top of his wishlist.
The Reds have built a reputation for recruiting young talent from within Europe, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential.
Klopp is a known admirer of the player and is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing him this winter.
Liverpool are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
Kabak is often quick to scan the danger and is not shy of getting stuck in with some well-timed tackles to help secure possession back for his side. His versatile nature can help the manager to be more flexible with the formations.
According to the report, “Schalke are hiking up their valuation of Ozan Kabak. The Turkey defender has emerged as a January target for Liverpool, where they see the youngster as cover for knee injury victim Virgil van Dijk. Liverpool are said to have opened talks with Schalke for Kabak ahead of the winter market. However, talk in England of a knockdown €22m asking price has been dismissed in Germany. Sport1 is reporting Schalke will not consider selling Kabak for less than €35m.”
