Leeds United linked with a move for Freiburg centre-back Robin Koch
The upcoming summer will see Leeds improving their defensive department.
According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Leeds United are linked with a move for Freiburg centre-back Robin Koch.
Freiburg spent 4 million euros to sign the Germany international from 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the summer of 2017. The 24-year-old has only one year left on his current contract which expires in 2021.
Robin Koch has represented Germany at Under-21 level, winning five caps, before making his senior international debut in October 2019. As a member of Germany national football team, Koch won two caps.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Leeds United.
Leeds are looking to sign a centre-back and have identified the 24-year-old as potential transfer target.
The Germany international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Marcelo Bielsa wants to target in the summer transfer window.
Leeds United are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
Koch has been a good servant for Freiburg, and is a centre-back who places himself in the right positions in defensive situations. The 28-year-old has a good defensive mind, someone who can spot attacking threats and nullify them.
According to the report, “Leeds United are eyeing a move for Freiburg defender Robin Koch in the summer window. The newly promoted Premier League side are desperate to sign Ben White from Brighton, who they had on loan last season during their promotion campaign. But given interest in White from bigger clubs, Leeds may look at alternatives. And The Sun says they are looking at Koch as a cheaper alternative. The 24-year-old can also play defensive midfield, and would fit in the playing style of manager Marcelo Bielsa. He played 34 games in all competitions for Freiburg in the past season.”

Freiburg would be wise to keep the Germany international, but if they do let him go expect it to be for a hefty sum.
Good signing for Leeds United?
If Robin Koch is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Leeds United.
Leeds must improve their defensive options and the signing of Koch would be a step in the right direction.
Given Robin Koch’s talent and potential, he would be a very good signing for Leeds in the long run.
Leeds United fans would certainly love to see him arrive at the club.
It will be interesting to see if Leeds can beat their rivals to the centre-back’s signature.
