Inter preparing move for Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez
According to the football transfer rumours in Italian Media (Football Italia), Inter are preparing move in January for Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez.
The Uruguay international has joined Atletico Madrid from Danubio for a fee in the region of 900,000 euros in July 2013. The 22-year-old has a valid contract with Atletico Madrid until June 2018.
Since his arrival from Danubio, Jose Maria Gimenez has scored 5 goals and provided 5 assists in 99 games for Atletico Madrid.
The 22-year-old is considered to be one of the best defenders in Uruguay.
Jose Maria Gimenez has represented Uruguay at Under-20 level, winning 9 caps, before making his senior international debut in September 2013. As a member of Uruguay national football team, Jose Maria Gimenez has won 34 caps and has scored 4 goals.
There has been no movement on Jose Maria Gimenez agreeing a contract extension at Atletico Madrid, and he will be on the radar of many European clubs during the winter.
Adding a defender remains Inter’s top priority this winter and Luciano Spalletti will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming months.
Luciano Spalletti has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe.
Inter manager is a long term admirer of Jose Maria Gimenez and believes he can get the most out of the Uruguay international.
Luciano Spalletti will reportedly be handed a huge transfer kitty this winter and the Atletico Madrid defender is thought to be among the manager’s priorities.

Inter are desperate to make an impact in the winter transfer window.
According to the report in Italian Media, Inter were looking for another centre-back in the summer transfer window, but failed with moves for Shkodran Mustafi and Eliaquim Mangala. So they will try again for a reinforcement at the back in January, with Gimenez top of their list.
How strong that interest is and whether Inter will make a summer move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
