Galatasaray pushing to sign Barcelona star Memphis Depay
The attacking department of the Galatasaray squad needs quality additions this winter.
According to multiple reports emanating from Spain, Galatasaray are pushing to sign Barcelona forward Memphis Depay.
The Netherlands international joined Barcelona from Lyon on a free transfer in July 2021. He is under contract at Barcelona until the end of this campaign.
The forward has registered one goal in four matches for Barcelona this season on all fronts.
He is considered to be one of the best forwards in Netherlands. Depay has also scored 43 goals in 86 games for his country.
Barcelona are unlikely to extend Depay’s contract, which is set to expire in 2023. This winter will be the last opportunity for La Liga giants to get a fee for the midfielder.
The Turkish giants have earmarked Barcelona forward Memphis Depay as their target, with Okan Buruk being a ‘huge admirer’ of the player.
Someone with Depay’s skillset and potential will no doubt be an excellent signing for Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk.
The former Lyon is a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and can also create some promising opportunities for his teammates to find the back of the net. He has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.
According to the report, “Galatasaray are willing to bid for Barcelona striker Memphis Depay. Sport says Depay will return to Barcelona training next week. The Dutch forward, who has been at the World Cup in Qatar with his country, will meet with Xavi Hernandez to talk about his situation and his future ahead of the January window. The club has no intention of letting him leave for free, even though his contract ends on June 30, 2023. However, only one club has so far shown a will to pay a transfer fee. It comes from the Turkish side Galatasaray, who are interested in acquiring the services of the ex-Lyon and Manchester United attacker.”

Memphis Depay has all the skillset required to be a success story at Nef Stadyumu. Therefore, it makes sense for Buruk to step up his attempts to bring the Netherlands forward to Super Lig side.
Galatasaray fans would certainly love to see him arrive at the club.
