Fenerbahce in advanced talks to bring Christian Benteke
The attacking department of the Fenerbahce squad needs quality additions this summer.
Reports in the British and Turkish media claim that Fenerbahce are in advanced talks to bring Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke.
The Belgium international was signed by Crystal Palace in August 2016 from Liverpool for a fee of 31.2 million euros. The 30-year-old has a valid contract with Palace until June 2021.
The striker has banged in six goals and provided one assist in 26 matches this term on all fronts.
The 30-year-old is considered to be one of the best strikers in Belgium. Benteke has also left his mark at the international stage after netting 16 goals in 39 senior appearances for the Belgium national team.
The striker’s contract at Crystal Palace is about to expire and a number of clubs are said to be monitoring his situation, with Fenerbahce showing the most concrete interest in an attempt to lure the player to their team.
By the club’s own admission, Christian Benteke is Fenerbahce’s number one transfer target.
The Fenerbahce manager has kept an eye on Benteke for the last 12 months and he is impressed with the striker’s performances.
The Turkish giants are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The Belgium international provides a unique blend between a classic center-forward and the modern striker. He has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.
According to the report, “Fenerbahce are in talks with Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke. Benteke is out of contract in the summer with no sign of a new deal on the horizon. Takvim says Fenerbahce have already held positive talks with Benteke’s agent. The Turkish giants want to bolster their frontline as they look set to be pipped by Besiktas to the league title. Fenerbahce are also eyeing Porto’s Moussa Marega on a free transfer in a double deal of strikers.”
