According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Everton will look to sign Schalke forward Matthew Hoppe.

The 20-year-old has been subject to interest from various Premier League clubs.

In 24 appearances for Schalke, Hoppe has managed to score six goals, and create one goal for his teammates.

The 20-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in United States. Hoppe has also left his mark at the international stage after netting one goal in 5 senior appearances for the United States national team.

His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Everton.

Rafael Benítez wants to sign a new forward and Hoppe is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. He is a firm fan of Schalke forward and Everton could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.

The Toffees are desperate to make an impact in the summer transfer window.

Matthew Hoppe is a dynamic forward, who possesses good technical skills and ball control. His arrival would give Everton some much needed tactical flexibility.

According to the report, “Everton are preparing a bid to sign Schalke youngster Matthew Hoppe and will look to do a deal in the coming days. The 20-year-old spent a season in the Schake academy before graduating to the senior team. The USA international made his first-team debut in November last year, going on to enjoy 15 starts and 22 Bundesliga outings. The youngster excelled at the recent Gold Cup, scoring his first international goal against Jamaica. And he played 120 minutes as America beat Mexico on the final after extra time. Journalist Ekrem Konur has now taken the story on, tweeting that Everton are set to offer £2m for the forward. And they will table the bid in the next few days in the hope of landing the Californian before the window closes.”

If Everton can agree on a fee with Schalke, the deal should be easy to complete.

Good signing for Everton?

If Hoppe is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Everton.

It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.

Matthew Hoppe is very highly rated in Germany and he could be a superb long term signing for Everton.

Signing the forward could be a good decision as he could improve Benítez’s attacking options.

It will be interesting to see if Everton make their move for the 20-year-old in the coming days.
