Everton looking to sign Juventus centre-back Federico Gatti

Everton is said to be exploring the possibility of signing Juventus’ center-back Federico Gatti, as the club looks to overhaul its squad ahead of the next season. Rumors suggest that the team may not retain the services of Yerry Mina and Conor Coady, the Wolves loanee, for the following season, due to their lackluster performances under the ex-Burnley manager Sean Dyche. In this context, Gatti could provide much-needed cover in defense, although it may cost Everton around €30m (approximately £26.3m) to secure his services.

According to SerieBNews, Everton and West Ham United are considering a move for the 24-year-old this summer. Juventus signed Gatti for €7.5m in January 2022 and loaned him back to Serie B club Frosinone for the remainder of the season. He was regarded as the best defender in the division last season but has struggled to break into Juve’s starting XI since returning from his loan spell. As a result, Gatti is reportedly open to leaving Allianz Stadium, but Everton will have to meet his hefty price tag to secure his services.

SerieBNews’ report suggests that Everton is expected to part ways with Mina this summer, given his failure to justify his £120,000 per week wage. Mina has put in some admirable performances over the years, but his game time has been significantly limited by injury. The Colombia international has made just three Premier League appearances for the Toffees this season, making it unlikely that the team will extend his contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season.

Coady, the Wolves loanee, may also not be retained by the club, with the player failing to impress Sean Dyche enough to convince the manager to keep him permanently. The 30-year-old was heavily utilized by Frank Lampard before he was sacked in January, but since Dyche’s arrival, he has fallen behind Michael Keane in the pecking order. The Daily Mail reports that Everton will delay their decision on signing Coady until the end of the season, as the club’s business will depend on its Premier League survival.

Therefore, Everton will first focus on avoiding relegation before considering a big-money offer for Gatti. Dyche will have to put all his effort into keeping the team in the Premier League, after which he can consider overhauling his squad, starting with the signing of Gatti.
