Everton linked with shock Clement Lenglet move

The Toffees are reportedly keeping a close eye on many centre-backs across the Europe.

According to the football transfer rumours in British and Spanish media, Everton are linked with shock Clement Lenglet move.

The France international was signed by Barcelona in July 2018 from Sevilla for a fee of 35.9 million euros. The 26-year-old has a contract until 2026 with the club.

The centre-back has featured in 48 matches last term, netting one goal.

The 26-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in France. As a member of France national football team, Lenglet won 13 caps and he scored one goal.

The centre-back is currently out of favor at Barcelona and could leave the club this summer.

Rafa Benitez wants to sign a new centre-back and Lenglet is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. He is a firm fan of Barcelona centre-back and Everton could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.

The Toffees are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

Lenglet is often quick to scan the danger and is not shy of getting stuck in with some well-timed tackles to help secure possession back for his side. He has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.

According to the report, “Everton manager Rafa Benitez is seeking to add Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet to their squad. According to Fichajes, the Spaniard has identified defense as an area where the Toffees can improve. The former Liverpool boss believes Lenglet, who played for France at Euro 2020, is the ideal player to add stature and passing ability into the back line. Given Barcelona are eager to sell players to reduce their wage bill ahead of the new La Liga season, Benitez may believe Lenglet can be secured for a reasonable fee. The report states that Benitez is not a fan of Everton center back Yerry Mina, while he thinks Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate are not quite ready for the big time.”

Everton will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Lenglet to join the club.

It is claimed that Barca are open to letting Lenglet go.

Good signing for Everton?

If Lenglet is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Everton.

A move to Everton is exactly what Lenglet needs to reignite his career, and we hope he is able to do just that.

All in all, the 26-year-old will be an ideal choice for Benitez as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what he demands from his defenders.

It will be interesting to see if Everton are willing to pay the asking price for Lenglet.
