Everton in talks to bring Zenit midfielder Wendel
There has been intense speculation surrounding the future of Wendel in the last period.
According to multiple reports emanating from England, Everton are in talks to bring Zenit midfielder Wendel.
Zenit spent 20.3 million euros
to sign the Brazil international from Sporting in October 2020. The 24-year-old has three years left on his current contract which expires in 2025.
He has played 55 times for Zenit over the course of his career, scoring six goals and providing 8 assists.
The 24-year-old is considered to be one of the best midfielders in Brazil. Wendel has represented Brazil at Under-23 level, winning 12 caps and scoring one goal.
Wendel has been identified as one of the key targets to improve Everton’s midfield department. Lampard is a firm fan of Zenit midfielder and Everton could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.
The Toffees are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The former Sporting man will add a new dimension to Everton’s midfield.
According to the report, “Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Wendel is being linked with a move to England. The Brazilian is interesting Everton and Napoli, with his agent already in talks with both clubs, reports Sport-Express. The 24 year-old had favoured returning to Brazil, though an offer from Flamengo fell short of expectations. Instead, Wendel’s minders are now in talks with Everton and Napoli about remaining in Europe next season. The 24-year-old midfielder made 35 appearances for Zenit in all competitions last season, scoring 4 goals and providing 5 assists.”

The Russian giants will be ready to part ways with the midfielder should the right offer arrives.

Wendel will be an ideal choice for Lampard as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what he demands from his midfielders.
Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Everton.
