Crystal Palace will look to sign Marcos Alonso

There has been intense speculation surrounding the future of Marcos Alonso in the last period.

The latest reports in England suggest that Crystal Palace will look to sign Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso.

The 29-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.

The Spain international joined Chelsea from Fiorentina for a fee in the region of 23 million euros in August 2016. His contract expires in the summer of 2023.

The left-back has featured only in 3 matches for Chelsea this term.

The 29-year-old is considered to be one of the best left-backs in Spain.

Alonso has earned 3 senior caps for the Spain national team but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his nation.

Crystal Palace are looking to sign a left-back and have identified the 29-year-old as potential transfer target.

Roy Hodgson is a firm fan of Chelsea left-back and Crystal Palace could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.

Palace are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

The Spain international would be a versatile addition for the Crystal Palace, having featured at left-back and in a wider midfield role. His tricky dribbling, fantastic shot and pace make him a nightmare for any defender to defend.

According to the report, “Crystal Palace are lining up a January move for Chelsea fullback Marcos Alonso. The Daily Mail says Palace are looking at Chelsea left back Alonso as a potential replacement for out-of-contract defender Patrick van Aanholt. Van Aanholt is one of a several Palace players whose deals run out at Selhurst Park at the end of this season. Though the club hope the popular Dutchman stays, there is strong interest in Alonso as an alternative with Marseille’s Jordan Amavi also being tracked. Alonso, 29, has fallen out of favour at Chelsea this season and hasn’t featured since being substituted at half-time when they were 3-0 down to West Brom in September. There were reports the disgruntled Spaniard then tried to watch the second half of the Hawthorns match on the Chelsea team bus – prompting a furious reaction from manager Frank Lampard. Palace are hoping to capitalise on a good start to the season under Roy Hodgson by holding talks with a number of players over their long-term futures.”

It would take a huge offer from Crystal Palace to prise the 29-year-old left-back from Chelsea.

Good signing for Crystal Palace?

A move to Crystal Palace is exactly what Alonso needs to reignite his career, and we hope he is able to do just that.

Palace should do everything in their power to sign the in-demand Alonso, who has all the qualities to be a success at the club.

A left-back of Marcos Alonso’s ceiling will be a massive addition to Palace squad as he will not only improve the overall quality of Roy Hodgson’s starting XI but also add some stability and variety to his defensive department.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Crystal Palace come calling for Alonso this winter.
