Chelsea will look to sign Barcelona young midfielder Gavi

Chelsea Football Club has expressed their interest in signing the young and talented Barcelona star, Gavi, this upcoming summer transfer window. The 18-year-old’s Transfermarkt value is currently at a staggering 90 million euros, which signifies his potential as a world-class player.

Gavi has had an impressive season, playing a total of 40 games for Barcelona and contributing with 2 goals and 6 assists. Chelsea’s Sporting Director Christopher Vivell has already met with Gavi’s agent, Ivan de la Pena, in Madrid several weeks ago to communicate their interest in the player. A follow-up meeting has been scheduled in the coming weeks to advance in the negotiations.

Although Gavi signed a new contract with Barcelona until 2026, it is only valid if he is registered as a first-team player. Barcelona has yet to register him, and they must adjust their wage bill to their salary limit before July. If they fail to do so, Gavi’s contract will be void, and he will be able to leave the club for free this summer.

The player has already played for Spain in 19 games and scored 3 goals, which indicates his potential for international success. Reports suggest that Gavi is frustrated with how Barcelona has handled the matter and feels that they have not given it the importance it deserved. While the club has urged calm on the matter, Chelsea’s interest has added further tension to the situation.

The Blues are prepared to offer Gavi a substantial amount, including a significant signing-on fee, which would likely outstrip Barcelona’s deal. The potential signing of Luis Enrique as Chelsea’s manager would be an added incentive for Gavi as he has played well under the Asturian manager.

Barcelona would need to make several major sales before the transfer window opens to register Gavi and his new deal before the summer. However, the likelihood of them raising €180-200m in such a short time seems slim. Therefore, the power lies in Gavi’s hands, and Barcelona will have to rely on persuading him to stay at the club on sentiment, as Chelsea is capable of offering better terms.
