Chelsea leading the race for Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain
There has been numerous strikers linked with Chelsea in past few months.
According to a report from Calciomercato, Chelsea are leading the race for Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain.
The 30-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
The Argentina international joined Juventus from Napoli for a fee in the region of 90 million euros in July 2016. His contract expires in the summer of 2021.
Higuain has played 147 times for Juventus since signing from Napoli, scoring 92 goals and creating 26 assists in that time.
The 30-year-old is considered to be one of the best strikers in Argentina.
His record for Argentina is also impressive. Gonzalo Higuain has scored 31 goals in 71 matches for Argentina at senior level.
Chelsea are in the market for a new striker when the transfer window reopens.
The English giants will be in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The Argentina international provides a unique blend between a classic center-forward and the modern striker.
According to Calciomercato, “Chelsea are already leading the race for Higuain and Juventus believe they can get around €70 million. This will be a good news for Chelsea, especially if they appoint Maurizio Sarri as their new manager. PSG are also interested in Higuain, but Juventus will only allow him leave if they find a replacement.”
Juventus are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the striker, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.
