Burnley preparing move for Newcastle winger Matt Ritchie
Burnley are showing strong interest in Matt Ritchie.
According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Burnley are preparing move for Newcastle winger Matt Ritchie.
The Scotland international was signed by Newcastle in July 2016 from Bournemouth for a fee of 12.2 million euros. The 28-year-old has a contract until 2021 with the club.
Since his arrival from Bournemouth, Matt Ritchie has scored 16 goals and provided 16 assists in 70 games for Newcastle, including six assists in 22 games in all competitions this season.
Ritchie has also scored three goals in 15 games for his country.
Sean Dyche wants to sign a new winger and Ritchie is one of the names at the top of his wishlist.
The Burnley manager has kept an eye on Ritchie for the last 12 months and he is impressed with the winger’s performances.
Burnley will be in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

According to the report, Sean Dyche would like to sign a winger with Robbie Brady expected out for the rest of the season. Aaron Lennon, James McClean and Jordan Jones of Kilmarnock are also being considered but it is understood an ambitious move for Newcastle’s wide-man has been suggested. It remains to be seen whether Rafa Benitez would sanction any transfer given Ritchie’s influence in the team but should the proposed takeover fail to go through the Newcastle manager might need to raise funds.
How strong that interest is and whether Burnley will make a winter move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
