Bordeaux surprisingly linked with Fabian Schar
The defensive department of the Bordeaux squad needs quality additions this winter.
The latest reports in France suggest that Bordeaux are surprisingly linked with Newcastle United’s Fabian Schar.
The 30-year-old has been with Newcastle since 2018, having signed for the club from Deportivo La Coruña for 4 million euros. His current deal expires in June 2022.
The centre-back has provided one assist in 11 matches this term on all fronts.
The 30-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in Switzerland. His record for Switzerland is impressive. Schar has scored 8 goals in 69 matches for Switzerland at senior level.
Given that his contract is expiring soon and he has not yet signed an extension, the rumors have only heated up in recent weeks.
Vladimir Petković is keen to secure at least one more signing this winter, and Schar could very well be a man under consideration. He is a known admirer of the player and is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing him this winter.
Bordeaux are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The former Deportivo La Coruña man is often quick to scan the danger and is not shy of getting stuck in with some well-timed tackles to help secure possession back for his side. His arrival would give Bordeaux some much needed tactical flexibility.
