Gonalons is out of the picture at Roma, which has opened the door for a potential exit.

Paulo Sousa is looking to shore up his midfield options and Roma’s Maxime Gonalons happens to be a target. He is a known admirer of the player and is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing him this summer.

Bordeaux are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

Maxime Gonalons would provide a good variety to Bordeaux’s midfield.

According to Football Italia, “Girondins de Bordeaux are reportedly interested in Roma flop Maxime Gonalons after his Sevilla loan spell. The 30-year-old midfielder was signed from Olympique Lyonnais for €5m in the summer of 2017, but made little impact in Italy. He spent last season on loan in Spain with Sevilla, making 13 competitive appearances with one goal. According to RMC Sport in France, Gonalons could be on his way back to Ligue 1 for Bordeaux, who have had a poor start to the Ligue 1 campaign under Coach Paulo Sousa. It’s still early days in negotiations, but Gonalons has no place in the current Roma squad.”

Roma are preparing to sell their midfielder should they receive right offer for him.

The 30-year-old would be a very good addition for Bordeaux and they can afford him as well. Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Bordeaux.

How strong that interest is and whether Bordeaux will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
