Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic subject to interest from Tottenham

Tottenham are on the hunt for a midfielder, and Ivan Rakitic is a player who is thought to be on their radar.

According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Tottenham are set to sign Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

The 32-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.

Barcelona spent 18 million euros to sign the Croatia international from Sevilla in the summer of 2014. The 32-year-old has one year left on his current contract which expires in 2021.

This season, Rakitic has provided 4 assists in 31 appearances for Barcelona.

The 32-year-old is considered to be one of the best midfielders in Croatia.

His record for Croatia is impressive. Rakitic has scored 15 goals in 106 matches for Croatia at senior level.

There has been no movement on Rakitic agreeing a contract extension at Barcelona, and he will be on the radar of many English clubs during the summer.

Adding a midfielder remains Tottenham’s top priority this summer and José Mourinho will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming months.

The Croatia international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of midfieler Mourinho wants to target in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

There is no doubt that Ivan Rakitic will take Tottenham’s midfield to a different level.

According to the report, “Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic is being linked with Tottenham. Rakitic has been a key part of Barca’s success since joining the club from Sevilla in 2014 but has been relegated to a supporting role this season. Mundo Deportivo says Tottenham are the latest club to register their interest as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his midfield options. Spurs’ bid for Rakitic could be aided by Barca’s reported interest in Tanguy Ndombele, who has endured a strained relationship with Mourinho. The Portuguese is a long time admirer of Rakitic but he faces competition from Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Sevilla and Napoli for the 32-year-old.”

Tottenham will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Rakitic to join the club.

A move to Spurs is exactly what Rakitic needs to reignite his career, and we hope he is able to do just that.

Signing the 32-year-old in the summer transfer window would be a masterstroke from José Mourinho.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Tottenham.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Tottenham come calling for Ivan Rakitic this summer.
