Barcelona make new bid for Chelsea winger Willian

Barcelona are showing strong interest in Willian.

The reports in England suggested that Barcelona are set to sign Chelsea winger Willian.

The 29-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.

The Brazil international was signed by Chelsea in August 2013 from Anzhi Makhachkala for a fee of 35 million euros. The 29-year-old has a contract until 2020 with the club.

Willian has played 236 times for Chelsea since signing from Anzhi Makhachkala, scoring 44 goals and creating 39 assists in that time.

The Brazil international has been in outstanding form for Chelsea last season.

As a member of Brazil national football team, Willian won 62 caps and he scored eight goals.

His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Barcelona.

The Barcelona manager is in the market for a new winger.

Ernesto Valverde has kept an eye on Willian for the last 12 months and he is impressed with the winger’s performances.

His tricky dribbling, fantastic shot and pace make him a nightmare for any defender to defend.

Barcelona are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

According to The Sun, “In June the Mail claimed Chelsea had knocked back a £50m offer from the Nou Camp for the Brazil playmaker. And today they claim a second offer has been lodged, raised to £55m cash and a further £5m in add-ons. The Catalan kings won the domestic double last season but lost Andres Iniesta and Paulinho from their long list of classy midfielders. And attacking midfielder Willian could slot into a number of different positions and already works well with international team-mate Philippe Coutinho.”

Chelsea are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the winger, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.

Signing the 29-year-old in the summer transfer window would be a masterstroke from Ernesto Valverde.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Barcelona.

Will Willian be a Barcelona player soon? Only time will tell.
