As the summer transfer window comes closer and closer Barcelona are being linked with more and more potential transfers.
Spanish source claim that Barcelona are linked with surprise move for Sporting CP goalkeeper Luis Maximiano.
The 21-year-old’s contract at Sporting is set to expire at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
Luis Maximiano has conceded 31 goals and provided 7 clean sheets in 23 games for Sporting.
The 21-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Portugal. Luis Maximiano has represented Portugal at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 21 caps.
His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.
Quique Setién wants to sign a new goalkeeper and Maximiano is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. The Barcelona manager has been impressed by his performances this season and could make a move this summer.
With questions being raised concerning Neto’s future at the club, the Barcelona manager could well look to Luis Maximiano as an ideal replacement.
According to the report, “Barcelona are interested in signing Sporting CP goalkeeper Luis Maximiano and believe he could be a long-term successor to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. Diario Sport cite Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola as reporting that the 21-year-old has interested officials at the Camp Nou and they could be planning a summer move. Ter Stegen is the established number one at the Blaugrana but there are doubts surrounding the future of current back-up goalkeeper Neto, who joined last summer from Valencia but who could be on the move again this year. Milan are also said to be interested in the Portuguese shot-stopper who joined Sporting in 2017 and has a contract through to the summer of 2023, and who could be available for an affordable €16m this year. Maximiano has featured in 22 games for Sporting this season in what has been a breakthrough campaign for the shot-stopper, who is said to be one of the brightest stars in Portuguese football.”

Undoubtedly he would be a fantastic recruit for Barcelona.
Although he may not be an immediate improvement to the squad, he could be a valuable signing for the future if he continues to progress at this rate.
This transfer could turn out to be a bargain as the market for goalkeepers is inflated at the moment.
The ball is in Barcelona’s court and they need to take a decision on signing Luis Maximiano.
