The Germany international has joined Schalke from MSV Duisburg on a free transfer in July 2009. The 22-year-old has a valid contract with Schalke until June 2018.
Since his arrival from MSV Duisburg, Max Meyer has scored 21 goals and provided 24 assists in 171 games for Schalke, including one goal in 7 games in all competitions this season.
The 22-year-old is considered to be one of the best attacking midfielders in Germany.
Max Meyer has represented Germany at Under-15, Under-16, Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 55 caps and scoring 22 goals, before making his senior international debut in May 2014. As a member of Germany national football team, Max Meyer has won four caps and has scored one goal.
The attacking midfielder’s contract at Schalke is about to expire in 8 months and a number of clubs are said to be monitoring his situation, with Barcelona showing the most concrete interest in an attempt to lure the player to their team.

According to the report in German media, Barcelona will try again for Coutinho in January, it’s unlikely that Liverpool will let him leave which has forced Barcelona to pursue other options. Given his contract situation, Barcelona would be able to approach Meyer in January and sign him to a pre-contract agreement prior to a free transfer being completed on July 1st, 2018.
Signing the 22-year-old in January would be a masterstroke from Ernesto Valverde.
