Atletico Madrid are planning a move for Samu Castillejo.
The Spain international joined Villarreal from Málaga for a fee in the region of 8 million euros in July 2015.
Samu Castillejo has played 116 times for Villarreal since signing from Málaga, scoring seven goals and creating 14 assists in that time.
The 23-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Spain.
Samu Castillejo has represented Spain at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 13 caps.
The Spain international will be high in demand this summer, with him having enjoyed a sublime season for Villarreal this term.
Diego Simeone is looking to shore up his attacking options and Villarreal’s Samu Castillejo happens to be a target.
The 23-year-old is thought to perfectly fit the profile of winger Diego Simeone wants to target in the summer transfer window.
According to Football Espana, “Atletico Madrid will attempt to sign Villarreal winger Samu Castillejo in summer following Yannick Carrasco’s departure to China. Villarreal president Fernando Roig admitted in January confirmed interest in the midfielder from Italy: “Napoli’s interest has always been concrete and direct,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss. Under contract to June 2020, Castillejo reportedly has a 20 million euros release clause and fellow Villarreal midfielder Rodri has also been linked to Atleti.”

Villarreal would be wise to keep the Spain international, but if they do let him go expect it to be for a hefty sum.
Signing the 23-year-old in the summer transfer window would be a masterstroke from Diego Simeone.
If he turns out to be a key player like many expect, it could be one of the club’s smartest transfers.
