Atletico Madrid pushing to sign Caglar Soyuncu
The defensive department of the Atletico squad needs quality additions this winter.
According to multiple reports emanating from England, Atletico Madrid are pushing to sign Leicester City centre-back Caglar Soyuncu.
The Foxes spent 21 million euros to sign the Turkey international from SC Freiburg in the summer of 2018. He has a valid contract with Leicester until June 2023.
In total, he has scored 3 goals and supplied 2 assists from 125 Leicester matches.
The 26-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in Turkey. As a member of Turkey national football team, Soyuncu won 51 caps and he scored two goals.
Caglar Soyuncu is one of the more likely players to be offloaded by Leicester this winter and the list of suitors in the Turkey international continues to grow.
Diego Simeone is looking to shore up his defensive options and Soyuncu happens to be a target. The report claims that Atletico Madrid manager has extensively scouted Soyuncu and is considering a move for the centre-back.
Atletico Madrid are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The former SC Freiburg man is often quick to scan the danger and is not shy of getting stuck in with some well-timed tackles to help secure possession back for his side.
According to the report, “Atletico Madrid are confident of sealing a move to sign Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu. Diego Simeone is focused on securing defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window as part of a squad rebuild in the Spanish capital. Los Rojiblancos’ reputation as defensive enforcers has slipped in the last 12 months with Simeone keen to bring in an experienced centre back in the coming months. Simeone will only have a limited transfer budget to work with in the coming weeks, following Atletico’s Champions League group stage exit last month, and Soyuncu is an interesting option. After making just one top-flight start so far in 2022/23, Soyuncu is looking to move on in January, with Leicester ready to lower their £22m asking price. As per reports from Mundo Deportivo, Atletico are increasingly confident of securing an agreement with the Premier League side, after he rejected a move to Italy, as talks continue in Madrid.”
