Atletico Madrid linked with fresh move for Edinson Cavani

Atletico Madrid are reportedly one of many clubs keeping tabs on Uruguay international Edinson Cavani.

According to the football transfer rumours in Spanish media, Atletico Madrid are linked with fresh move for Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguay international was signed by PSG in July 2013 from Napoli for a fee of 64.5 million euros. The 32-year-old has a contract until 2020 with the club.

Cavani has played 288 times for PSG since signing from Napoli, scoring 195 goals and creating 40 assists in that time.

His record for Uruguay is also impressive. Cavani has scored 59 goals in 116 matches for Uruguay at senior level.

The striker’s contract at PSG is about to expire and a number of clubs are said to be monitoring his situation, with Atletico Madrid showing the most concrete interest in an attempt to lure the player to their team.

Diego Simeone is a known admirer of the player and is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing him this winter.

Edinson Cavani is a traditional number nine, having all types of finishes in his locker.

According to Football Espana, “Atletico Madrid are hopeful of signing a striker in January with Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani a target. Back in May, El Mundo Deportivo cited a report on Spanish radio station Cadena Ser that the Uruguayan will arrive at Los Rojiblancos, but only in the event of Diego Costa leaving the club over the summer – a move which never happened. However, Costa has been sidelined with an injury until February, leaving Atleti short up front and also short on goals this season. The club are at their salary cap and would need to offload players in order to sign anyone, with Santiago Arias and Sime Vrsaljko two players who may be let go.”

Atletico Madrid will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Cavani to join the club.

Nevertheless, Cavani stands as an excellent option for Atletico Madrid.

Whether or not this is the end for Edinson Cavani in PSG remains to be seen. If the move goes through as reported, then it would be a fantastic deal for all parties involved.
