Aston Villa preparing move for Leeds star Kalvin Phillips

The upcoming summer will see Aston Villa improving their midfield department.

The reports in England suggested that Aston Villa are preparing mega move for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The 26-year-old midfielder has played all his life at Leeds. He has made his way through the youth system at the English club. His contract is set to expire at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

The midfielder has played 227 times for Leeds over the course of his career, scoring 14 goals and providing 13 assists.

He is considered to be one of the best midfielders in England. Phillips has earned 19 senior caps for the England national team but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his nation.

His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.

Steven Gerrard wants to sign a new midfielder and Phillips is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. The England international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of midfielder Gerrard wants to target in the summer transfer window.

Villa are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

There is no doubt that Phillips will take Aston Villa’s midfield to a different level.

Three years after the club last tried to price him away from Elland Road, it is believed Villa will make another move for the Leeds and England star in the summer window. A new defensive midfielder is a priority for them, as there remains a big gap between defense and attack because of the offensive qualities of John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey in midfield. Villa have been crying out for a midfield anchor ever since they returned to the top flight in 2019, but former boss Dean Smith’s attempts to sign Phillips proved unsuccessful. Gerrard is equally keen to add a midfielder capable of ‘screening’ in front of his back four this summer, and £60m-rated Phillips meets the criteria for the type of player he is looking for.”

It would take a huge offer from Aston Villa to prise the 26-year-old midfielder from Leeds.

Leeds United would be wise to keep the England international, but if they do let him go expect it to be for a hefty sum.

Aston Villa need to bolster their squad depth and acquiring Phillips will certainly be a forward step.

Kalvin Phillips is very highly rated in England and he could be a superb long term signing for Villa.
