Aston Villa are discussing a move to sign Domagoj Vida.

According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Aston Villa are in advanced talks to bring Besiktas centre-back Domagoj Vida.

The Croatia international joined Besiktas from Dynamo Kyiv on a free transfer in January 2018. His contract expires in the summer of 2022.

Domagoj Vida made 78 appearances across all competitions for Besiktas, scoring 7 goals and supplying one assist.

The 30-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in Croatia.

His record for Croatia is also impressive. Vida has scored 4 goals in 79 matches for Croatia at senior level.

His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Aston Villa.

The report details that Dean Smith feels his defense currently lacks some bite and that he could strengthen this winter.

Smith is a long term admirer of Vida and believes he can get the most out of the Croatia international.

There is no doubt that Vida will take Aston Villa’s defense to a different level.

According to Tribalfootball, “Besiktas centre-back Domagoj Vida is back on the radar of Premier League clubs. Vida has been linked with a move to England since helping Croatia reach the 2018 World Cup final in Russia. Fotospor reports Aston Villa are monitoring his situation at Besiktas. The 30-year-old regularly appeared for Croatia as they made it to the final of World Cup 2018, and also has experience at the likes of Dinamo Zagreb and Dynamo Kiev. Besiktas want around £8.5m for the player, a fee which Villa are likely to deem acceptable as they desperately try to reinforce their defence following their humiliating 6-1 defeat to Manchester City.”

Aston Villa will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Vida to join the club.

The 30-year-old would be a very good addition for Aston Villa and they can afford him as well.

How strong that interest is and whether Aston Villa will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
