Roma appear to have taken a step forward in their pursuit of Lukas Klostermann.
The latest reports in England suggest that AS Roma are in advanced talks to bring RB Leipzig right-back Lukas Klostermann.
The 23-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
The Germany international joined RB Leipzig from VfL Bochum for a fee in the region of 1 million euros in August 2014. His contract expires in the summer of 2021.
In 154 appearances for RB Leipzig, Klostermann has managed to score 10 goals, and create 11 goals for his teammates.
The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the best right-backs in Germany.
Lukas Klostermann has represented Germany at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 36 caps and scoring 2 goals, before making his senior international debut in March 2019. As a member of Germany national football team, Klostermann won 8 caps.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Roma.
Lukas Klostermann is widely regarded as a key transfer target for Roma this summer.
The report claims that Roma manager has extensively scouted Klostermann and is considering a move for the right-back.
The right-back can also play as a full-back and centre-back, offering Paulo Fonseca a different option should he change his formation at Roma.
According to the report, “Roma are looking at strengthening their full back department by signing RB Leipzig defender Lukas Klostermann. The report details how Giallorossi coach Paulo Fonseca isn’t convinced by any of the options in Rome and so wants to sign a new player to strengthen the department. The deal was proposed by a mediator, the report continues. The same mediator that helped bring Patrick Schick to Leipzig on loan last summer. The positive impact of the Czech striker means that the German club are likely to exercise their buy option on him. Klostermann could be involved in the deal; His market value is €30-35 million, slightly more than the estimates that see Schick worth €31.5 million. Negotiations are ongoing, but the player’s age and cost are attractive to the Roman club.”
TOP FOOTBALL TRANSFERS 2019-2020
RB Leipzig are reluctant to let Klostermann go, but a big enough bid could persuade them to sell.
Signing the 23-year-old would be a masterstroke from Fonseca.
Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Roma.
How strong that interest is and whether Roma will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
