The attacking department of the Roma squad needs quality additions this summer.
According to multiple reports emanating from England, Roma have entered talks with Crystal Palace for Wilfried Zaha.
The Ivory Coast international was signed by Crystal Palace in February 2015 from Manchester United for a fee of 3.8 million euros. He has a contract until 2023 with the club.
The winger has played 429 times for Crystal Palace over the course of his career, scoring 83 goals and providing 73 assists.
The 29-year-old is considered to be the best winger in Ivory Coast. Zaha has also left his mark at the international stage after netting 5 goals in 28 senior appearances for the Ivory Coast national team.
He has just one year left on his deal and he is yet to sign a new contract. The Ivory Coast international has openly expressed his desire to play at a higher level. This gives an indication that Zaha probably won’t commit his future at the club.
José Mourinho is eager to add a winger to the squad. He wants an experienced player that can be a leader on and off the pitch for him. He is a firm fan of Crystal Palace winger and Roma could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.
The Italian giants are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The former Manchester United man is a dynamic striker, who possesses good technical skills and ball control. His versatile nature can help the manager to be more flexible with the formations.
According to the report, “Roma and Crystal Palace are discussing a swap deal for Wilfried Zaha. Roma are chasing a deal for Ivory Coast star Zaha. Sky Italia’s Gianluca di Marzio reports Roma could be open to negotiate a swap deal that would include teenage striker Felix Afena-Gyan to help get a deal done by offering a replacement. The 19-year-old has scored just two goals in 22 appearances for the Giallorossi since making his first-team debut last October. He has, however, recently penned a new four-year deal with Roma, keeping him at the Italian outfit until the summer of 2026.”
Euro Football Rumours
Roma will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Zaha to join the club.
If Roma can agree on a fee with Crystal Palace, the deal should be easy to complete.
The English club will not be able to demand a significant fee for Zaha since his current deal is set to expire in 2023.
Wilfried Zaha ideal fit for Roma?
Signing the 29-year-old in the summer transfer window would be a masterstroke from Mourinho.
Wilfried Zaha has all the skillset required to be a success story at Roma. Therefore, it makes sense for Mourinho to step up his attempts to bring the Ivory Coast winger to Serie A side.
If Mourinho sees him as the right man for his side, Roma should quickly make a move to fend off interest from other clubs.
