AS Monaco join the hunt for West Ham centre-back Issa Diop
The defensive department of the Monaco squad needs quality additions this summer.
The reports in France suggested that Monaco have joined the hunt for West Ham centre-back Issa Diop. He has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
West Ham spent 25 million euros to sign the France international from Toulouse in the summer of 2018. He has one year left on his current contract which expires in 2023.
The centre-back has featured in 26 matches this term, netting one goal and providing two assists in all competitions.
Diop has represented France at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 40 caps and scoring 3 goals.
AS Monaco have earmarked Diop as their target, with Philippe Clement being a ‘huge admirer’ of the player. Clement is a firm fan of West Ham centre-back and Monaco could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.
ASM are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The former Toulouse man heavily relies on his ability to read the game. It is coupled with his sensible tackling and an excellent sense of positioning, allowing him to repel most of the danger in the defensive third.
According to the report, “AS Monaco are interested in West Ham United defender Issa Diop. Foot Mercato says Monaco are ready to move for the Frenchman, who is set to become available this summer. ASM see Diop as a replacement for Benoit Badiashile, who is interesting Newcastle. Diop is also on the radar of Olympique Lyon. The defender’s contract runs to 2023 and West Ham will seek €10-15m to sell.”

ASM will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Diop to join the club.
If Monaco can agree on a fee with West Ham, the deal should be easy to complete.
Good signing for AS Monaco?
Undoubtedly, he would be a fantastic recruit for Monaco.
Issa Diop will be an ideal choice for Clement as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what he demands from his defenders.
It will be interesting to see if ASM can beat their rivals to the centre-back’s signature.
