The defensive department of the Arsenal squad needs quality additions this summer.

This season, Magalhaes has scored one goal in 29 appearances for Lille.

The 22-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Brazil. Gabriel Magalhaes has represented Brazil at Under-20 level, winning 4 caps.

His performances have seen him become the target of many Premier League clubs including Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta wants to sign a new defender and Gabriel Magalhaes is one of the names at the top of his wishlist.

This approach of signing exciting talent from different parts of the globe can reap rewards for Arsenal in the future.

Arsenal are desperate to make an impact in the summer transfer window.

There is no doubt that Gabriel Magalhaes will take Arsenal’s defense to a different level.

According to the report, “Arsenal are monitoring Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes with a view to a summer move for the 22-year-old Brazilian. But they have been warned that the powerful centre-half will not come cheap after making an inquiry during the January transfer window. Lille president Gerard Lopez has already proved himself an extremely tough negotiator after holding out for a club record £72million fee from the Gunners for Nicolas Pepe in the summer. And he is likely to demand almost £30million for Gabriel despite paying just £1.5million to bring him to northern France three years ago. Lille’s valuation is based on the £27million fee which Arsenal have paid St.Etienne for William Saliba, who was signed last summer but has remained on loan in France for the season.”

Lille are reluctant to let Gabriel Magalhaes go, but a big enough bid could persuade them to sell.

Undoubtedly he would be a fantastic recruit for Arsenal.

How strong that interest is and whether Arsenal will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
