His impressive performances last season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.

Arsenal shortlist Pau Torres as prime transfer target this winter.

The Gunners have built a reputation for recruiting young talent from within Europe, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential.

The Spain international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Mikel Arteta wants to target in the winter transfer window.

The Villarreal centre-back heavily relies on his ability to read the game. It is coupled with his sensible tackling and an excellent sense of positioning, allowing him to repel most of the danger in the defensive third. Torres has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.

According to the report, “Arsenal and Manchester United are set to go head to head to sign Villarreal defender Pau Torres. The stylish centre-back was thought to be a target for Premier League clubs this summer, but a move did not materialize. And according to Spanish outlet Todo Fichajes, Arsenal are interested in another centre-half, despite Gabriel and William Saliba joining their squad this summer. United have their own issues in defence, with Harry Maguire in poor form and neither Eric Bailly or Victor Lindelof looking particularly convincing. The league places of both clubs when the January window opens may go some way to determining where Torres decides to go, if he is offered the chance to sign for either club.”

Arsenal will have to present a really enticing offer to bring Villarreal to the negotiating table. Arsenal have the resources to tempt them but it will be interesting to see if they are willing to overpay for the player.

Good signing for Arsenal?

Pau Torres’ arrival will be a huge boost for Arsenal.

The Gunners must improve their defensive options and the signing of Torres would be a step in the right direction. He is very highly rated in Spain and he could be a superb long term signing for Arsenal.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal can beat their rivals to the centre-back’s signature.
