Tomas has represented Portugal at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level, winning 21 caps and scoring 10 goals.

His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.

Mikel Arteta wants to sign a new striker and Tomas is one of the names at the top of his wishlist.

Arsenal have built a reputation for recruiting young talent from within Europe, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential.

Arteta is a known admirer of the player and is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing him this summer.

The Gunners are desperate to make an impact in the summer transfer window.

The Portugal international will offer the Arsenal boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.

According to the report,”Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Sporting CP teen striker Tiago Tomas. The Sun says Gunners technical director Edu has been in direct contact with Sporting director of football Hugo Viana over the deal. The 18-year-old signed a new five-year contract with the Portuguese giants in June 2020 with a release clause of £52m. However, due to the current economic climate and Sporting’s spending in recent years, it is understood the club may accept a deal as low as £20m. Edu and manager Mikel Arteta were impressed by Tomas while watching Sporting vs Benfica earlier this month ahead of Arsenal’s Europa League clash with the latter next week. And in discussion with Viana, former Gunners midfielder Edu is believed to have made it clear they do not want to regret missing out on such a player in the future.”

Sporting are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the striker, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.

Tiago Tomas ideal fit for Arsenal?

The 18-year-old is certainly a player that would strengthen the current Arsenal squad and would be a good buy in the summer transfer window.

It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Arsenal.

Arsenal fans would certainly love to see him arrive at the club.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal are willing to pay the asking price for Tiago Tomas.
