West Ham linked with a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Hector Herrera
West Ham are on the hunt for a midfielder, and Hector Herrera is a player who is thought to be on their radar.
The 30-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
The Mexico international joined Atletico Madrid from Porto on a free transfer in July 2019. His contract expires in the summer of 2022.
Herrera has scored one goal and assisted one more across all competitions this season.
The 30-year-old is considered to be one of the best midfielders in Mexico. As a member of Mexico national football team, Herrera won 74 caps and he scored 6 goals.
The Mexico international is believed to be available for transfer, with David Moyes now keen to bring him to West Ham. Moyes is a known admirer of the player and is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing him this summer.
West Ham are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
Herrera can play multiple positions in midfield.
According to the report, “Premier League side West Ham are considering a summer move for Atletico Madrid’s out of favour midfielder Hector Herrera. The Hammers were linked with the Mexican international during the January transfer window, but no formal bid materialised. However, according to reports from Marca, David Moyes’ side are in line to reignite their interest ahead of the 2020-21 campaign. Herrera has struggled to maintain a starting role in Diego Simeone’s side so far this season, after joining on a free transfer from Porto last summer. The 30-year old has started just nine La Liga games in 2019-20 with Thomas Partey, Koke, Saul Niguez all ahead of him in the pecking order. But despite the Hammers rumoured interest in the former Pachuca schemer, reports from The Independent claim they could by challenged for him by a growing list of domestic rivals. Moyes may be forced to sell players before he brings any new faces into the London Stadium in the coming months due to budget restrictions, with Herrera potentially costing around €12M.”

If the West Ham can tie up a cheap deal for the player, it may not be a bad signing by any means.
Stylistically, he would be a great fit in West Ham.
West Ham fans would certainly love to see him arrive at the club this summer.
How strong that interest is and whether West Ham will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
