West Ham: David Moyes pushing for a new centre-back
The Hammers are known for going under the radar and signing some hidden gems in the transfer window.
According to the football transfer rumours in British media, West Ham are set to sign Rennes centre-back Nayef Aguerd.
The 26-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
Rennes spent 4 million euros to sign the Morocco international from Dijon in the summer of 2020. The 26-year-old has three years left on his current contract which expires in 2025.
He has featured in 40 matches for Rennes last term, netting four goals and providing three assists in all competitions.
The 26-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in Morocco. Aguerd has also left his mark at the international stage after netting one goal in 19 senior appearances for the Morocco national team.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including West Ham.
David Moyes wants to sign a new centre-back and Aguerd is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. He needs to tighten up his defense and a centre-back would be a welcome addition. Moyes is a known admirer of the player and is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing him this summer.
The former Dijon man is often quick to scan the danger and is not shy of getting stuck in with some well-timed tackles to help secure possession back for his side.
According to the report, “West Ham have made a move for Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd. The Morocco international has been on the radar of manager David Moyes for over a year and the 26-year-old is eager to move to London, says the Daily Mail. Moyes wanted a centre-back who can provide balance on the left as well as pace. Aguerd is also good technically and decent in the air. He impressed for his country at the African Cup of Nations and has 19 caps. Rennes are seeking around £15m to sell Aguerd. Adding depth will be a vital part of David Moyes’ plan moving forward, as many felt West Ham’s exit from the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt stemmed from the squad’s lack of legs in the latter part of the season.”
