Tottenham monitoring Lyon forward Maxwel Cornet
forward Maxwel Cornet has emerged as a surprise target for Tottenham in the winter transfer window.
The reports in England suggested that Tottenham are monitoring Lyon forward Maxwel Cornet.
The Ivory Coast international joined Lyon from Metz for a fee in the region of 420,000 euros in January 2015. His contract expires in the summer of 2021.
Since his arrival from Metz, Cornet has scored 24 goals and provided nine assists in 116 games for Lyon, including two goals and four assists in 21 games in all competitions this season.
The Ivory Coast international has also scored one goal in five games for his country.
Tottenham have built a reputation for recruiting young talent from within Europe, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential.
The report claims that Tottenham manager has extensively scouted Maxwel Cornet and is considering a move for the forward.
The Ivory Coast international is a player who has impressed many European clubs in the last few seasons, and it is understood that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino would prefer playing him as a right winger.

According to the report, Spurs are keeping close tabs on Ivory Coast international while he is also being watched by Borussia Dortmund. Maxwel Cornet has a release clause in his contract which stands at 8.2 million euros which would need to be met in full before Lyon would allow him to leave the club this winter.
Signing the 21-year-old in January would be a masterstroke from Mauricio Pochettino.
Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Tottenham.
Whether he will join Tottenham or not remains to be seen.
