Tottenham Hotspur join the hunt for Sporting CP right-back Pedro Porro
The defensive department of the Tottenham squad needs quality additions.
As per British media, Tottenham have joined the hunt for Sporting right-back Pedro Porro.
The Spain international joined Sporting from Manchester City for a fee in the region of 8.5 million euros in July 2022. His contract expires in the summer of 2025.
In 16 appearances this season, Porro has contributed with five assists.
The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the best right-backs in Spain. As a member of Spain national football team, Porro won one cap.
His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.
Tottenham Hotspur have earmarked Pedro Porro as their target, with Antonio Conte being a ‘huge admirer’ of the player. The report claims that Tottenham manager has extensively scouted Porro and is considering a move for the right-back.
The Spurs are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The former Manchester City man is comfortable playing out from the back and given Conte’s demands, that would fit in perfectly with his tactics.
According to the report, “Sporting CP defender Pedro Porro is interesting Tottenham. Spurs have joined the race to land Porro, says Jornal de Noticias. Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is keen on luring him to the Premier League. However, European giants Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have all also been credited with an interest. Porro is a former Manchester City player, though never played for the Sky Blues. Such has been his form with Sporting, that Porro played his way into the Spain squad.”
Euro Football Rumours
It would take a huge offer from Tottenham to prise the 23-year-old right-back from Sporting.
Sporting CP would be wise to keep the Spain international, but if they do let him go expect it to be for a hefty sum.
Good signing for Tottenham Hotspur?
If Tottenham and Conte are seriously considering a right-back, Pedro Porro could also prove to be a smart option.
It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.
All in all, Porro will be an ideal choice for Conte as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what he demands from his defenders.
Will Pedro Porro be a Tottenham Hotspur player soon? Only time will tell.
