Sporting target Leicester City striker Islam Slimani
striker Islam Slimani has emerged as a surprise target for Sporting Lisbon ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to the football transfer rumours in Portuguese Media (SapodesPorto), Sporting Lisbon are targeting Leicester City striker Islam Slimani.
The Algeria international has joined Leicester City from Sporting for a fee in the region of 30 million euros in August 2016. The 29-year-old has a valid contract with Leicester City until June 2021.
Since his arrival, Islam Slimani has scored eight goals and provided five assists in 30 games for Leicester City in all competitions this season.
The 29-year-old is considered to be one of the best strikers in Algeria.
The Algeria international has been in fine form for Leicester City this season.
As a member of Algeria national football team, Islam Slimani has won 51 caps and has scored 25 goals.
Adding a striker remains Sporting Lisbon’s top priority this summer and Jorge Jesus will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming weeks.
Jorge Jesus will reportedly be handed a huge transfer kitty this summer and the Leicester City striker is thought to be among the manager’s priorities.
Sporting Lisbon are in the market for just a handful of statement signings this summer who can improve the first-team.
The Algeria international will definitely be a good addition to the Sporting Lisbon side.
With questions being raised concerning Bas Dost’s future at the club, the Sporting Lisbon boss could well look to Islam Slimani as an ideal replacement.
Islam Slimani would reportedly be interested in a move this summer, but if Sporting Lisbon do want him, they will have to beat those other interested clubs to his signature.
How strong that interest is and whether Sporting Lisbon will make a summer move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
