Sporting looking to loan Roma forward
forward Seydou Doumbia has emerged as a surprise target for Sporting CP ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to the football transfer rumours in Portuguese Media (Ojogo), Sporting are looking to loan Roma forward Seydou Doumbia.
The Ivory Coast international was signed by Roma in January 2015 from CSKA Moscow for a fee of 14.4 million euros. The 29-year-old has a valid contract with Roma until June 2019. In July 2016, Doumbia was sent to Basel on a season-long loan.
Since his arrival from Roma, Seydou Doumbia has scored 21 goals and provided two assists in 34 games for Basel in all competitions this season.
The 29-year-old is considered to be one of the best forwards in Ivory Coast.
The Ivory Coast international has been in impressive form for Roma this season.
As a member of Ivory Coast national football team, Doumbia has won 35 caps and has scored four goals.
Sporting CP are in the market for just a handful of statement signings this summer who can improve the first-team.
The Ivory Coast international is a player who has impressed many European clubs in the last season, and it is understood that Sporting CP manager Jorge Jesus would prefer playing him as a forward.
According to the report in Portuguese Media, the Ivory Coast international is set to join Sporting CP on a season-long loan with the view to a 6 million euros permanent transfer.
