Southampton submit bid for Rennes winger Jeremy Doku

Over the past couple of weeks, there has been intense speculation over the future of Jeremy Doku at Rennes.

The reports in France suggested that Southampton have submited bid for Rennes young winger Jeremy Doku.

The Belgium international was signed by Rennes in 2020 from Anderlecht for a fee of 26 million euros. He has a contract until 2025 with the club.

This season, Jeremy Doku has scored only one goal in 13 appearances for Rennes.

The 20-year-old has long been touted as one of Belgium’s most promising young talents. As a member of Belgium national football team, Doku won 12 caps and he scored 2 goals.

His performances have seen him become the target of many Premier League clubs including Southampton.

Nathan Jones wants to sign a new winger and Doku is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. He has been identified as one of the key targets to improve the attacking department. Jones has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe and someone with Doku’s skillset and potential will no doubt be an excellent signing for Southampton boss.

The Saints are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

The former Anderlecht man will add a new dimension to Southampton’s attack.

The highly-rated winger is currently at Rennes after a £23m move in 2020. While injuries have hampered his progress in France, Doku has demonstrated flashes of quality and goal-threat. Foot Mercato report that the Saints are bidding to bring him to St Mary’s to give their struggling side a boost. The Premier League side are believed to be enquiring about his availability. Southampton will be hoping he can bring some additional sharpness to their goal-shy forward line.”

Euro Football Rumours

The French club are reluctant to let Jeremy Doku go, but a big enough bid could persuade them to sell.

Southampton will have to present a really enticing offer to bring Rennes to the negotiating table. They have the resources to tempt them but it will be interesting to see if they are willing to overpay for the player.

Good signing for Southampton?

Undoubtedly, he would be a fantastic recruit for Southampton.

Jeremy Doku has all the skillset required to be a success story at St. Mary’s Stadium. Therefore, it makes sense for Nathan Jones to step up his attempts to bring the Belgium winger to Premier League side.

Whether he will join Southampton or not remains to be seen.
