Southampton eye a 12 million euros transfer for Lyon striker: A good move by Ralph Hasenhuttl?

It is an open secret that Southampton need to sign a striker.

The reports in England suggested that Southampton are eyeing a 12 million euros transfer for Moussa Dembele.

Lyon spent 22 million euros to sign the France international from Celtic in the summer of 2018. He has one year left on his current contract which expires in 2023.

The striker finished the 2021/22 season with a tally of 22 goals and 5 assists from 35 matches across all competitions.

Dembele has represented France at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 59 caps and scoring 23 goals.

His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Southampton.

Ralph Hasenhuttl is a firm fan of Lyon striker and Southampton could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.

Southampton are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

The former Celtic man is a traditional number nine, having all types of finishes in his locker. His finishing abilities when in and around the box will come as a massive asset to Hasenhuttl’s side.

According to the report, “Southampton are moving for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele. Saints believe they can land Dembele for a cut-price fee. The Sun says he may be available for around £10million. Dembele, 26 on Tuesday, was on loan at Atletico Madrid two seasons ago but Lyon would want money for him in this window although the cost could be relatively cheap. The Frenchman is inside the final year of his OL deal.”

Euro Football Rumours

Considering they don’t have a big budget, Southampton will have to be smart with the signings in the transfer window.

Lyon will not be able to demand a significant fee for Dembele since his current deal is set to expire in 2023.

Good signing for Southampton?

If Dembele is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Southampton.

A striker of Dembele’s ceiling will be a massive addition to Southampton squad as he will not only improve the overall quality of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s starting XI but also add some stability and variety to his attacking department.

If Hasenhuttl sees him as the right man for his side, Southampton should quickly make a move to fend off interest from other clubs.
