Southampton considering a move for Groningen right-back Deyovaisio Zeefuik
The defensive department of the Southampton squad needs quality additions this summer.
According to the football transfer rumours in Dutch and British media, Southampton are considering a move for Groningen right-back Deyovaisio Zeefuik.
The 22-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
The Netherlands international was signed by Groningen in July 2018 from Ajax for a fee of 300,000 euros. The 22-year-old has a contract until 2021 with the club.
The right-back has featured in 28 matches for Groningen this term, providing two assists in all competitions.
The 22-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Netherlands.
Deyovaisio Zeefuik has represented Netherlands at Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 27 caps and scoring one goal.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Southampton.
Ralph Hasenhüttl needs to tighten up his defense and a right-back would be a welcome addition. He has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe.
Hasenhüttl is a long term admirer of Zeefuik and believes he can get the most out of the Netherlands international.
Deyovaisio Zeefuik would provide a good variety to Southampton’s defense.
According to the report, “Southampton are weighing up a summer move for FC Groningen fullback Deyovaisio Zeefuik. Zeefuik shone this past season in Holland – before it was abandoned by the local government. Eurosport says his form has caught the attention of clubs across Europe, including Southampton. Saints are in the market for a new fullback and now have Zeefuik under consideration. AC Milan and Reims have also been linked with the former Ajax junior.”

FC Groningen are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the right-back, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.
Good signing for Southampton?
It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.
The 22-year-old would be a very good addition for Southampton and they can afford him as well.
Deyovaisio Zeefuik is very highly rated in Holland and he could be a superb long term signing for Southampton.
