Roma have reportedly made contact with Lille over a deal to sign Brazil international Thiago Maia.
The reports in Italy suggested that Roma are in talks over 10 million euros deal for Thiago Maia.
The Brazil international joined Lille from Santos for a fee in the region of 14 million euros in July 2017. His contract expires in the summer of 2022.
Maia made 50 appearances across all competitions for Lille, scoring one goal and supplying one assist in return.
The 21-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Brazil.
Thiago Maia has represented Brazil at Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 level, winning 9 caps.
The Brazil international has impressed in Ligue 1 this season and is starting to attract the interest of bigger clubs.
The report details that Monchi feels Roma’s midfield currently lacks some bite and that he could strengthen this winter.
Roma are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
Thiago Maia has the talent to play many roles in midfield.
According to Football Italia (via La Voix du Nord), “Reports in France claim Roma are trying to sign Lille midfielder Thiago Maia on loan with option to buy for a total €10m. According to La Voix du Nord, Giallorossi director of sport Monchi has proposed a loan with option to buy at the end of the season for a total sum of €10m. The two clubs have done business in the past for teenage defender William Bianda. Thiago Maia had already been linked with a move to Italy last year for Milan.”
